Monday News: Operation Wallet Trap

Well now that The Avengers is out and Marvel has a gigantic hit, we’re all holding our breath for what the next big piece of Marvel movie news is; though, while we’re waiting for one of the Marvel mystery projects to be announced, you can hear about other stuff that caught my fancy in between me playing through Resident Evil 4 for the 64th time.

– Hot Toys keeps things interesting by announcing Avengers version of Thor

I can only imagine the release schedule for Hot Toys’ Avengers line as I don’t think we’ve gone longer than 2 weeks without a reveal of something from the line at this point. Thor’s up next, featuring the full armor/cape look from the film’s climax, with there already being a teaser for the Hulk out.

Hot Toys is really revealing a ton of thing super quick; a recent announcement of a DX version of Dutch from Predator completely fell under the radar for me. There’s going to be plenty to hold your attention as we await the inevitable Mark VII Iron Man, new Black Widow, and hopefully Agent Coulson, Bruce Banner, or Maria Hill to join the planned lineup. Mosey over to Hot Toys facebook where you can see all the Avengers shown so far as well as view many hilariously negative and ignorant comments in each individual pic because this is the internet. – See a little bit more from the guy who played ‘Man #1’ in The Avengers

Speaking of The Avengers, I hope you guys have seen it because there’s going to be a lot of people spoiling the first credits stinger in their eagerness to show off how they recognize the character, possibly as an attempt to be a jerk or to hide that they had to ask someone else to know. You know the type. Anyway, I had assumed that ‘Man #1’ was that character and if you want to see the actor behind the motion-capture, not a completely CGI character as thought beforehand, you can read a little about him here. – The next major Amazing Spider-Man story arc will be called Danger Zone and involves the Hobgoblin, playing to my hopes that Roderick Kingsley will come back from the dead somehow because this is the kind of thing I think about.

Sure to inspire plenty of snide comments of Marvel ripping off DC, the next major story for Amazing Spider-Man will involve the Hobgoblin in some fashion; as a big fan of Slott, I’m hoping there’s something big in store, especially since the somewhat casual bumping-off of Roderick Kingsley by Phil Urich in the first issue of Big Time was kind of an immediate turn off for a run I’d been anticpating for months. I’m not sure what issue the cover above goes with but judging by Humberto Ramos’ signature of “Happy birthday old man”, I’d say it’s a shoo-in for one of the 50th Anniversary issues. I dig it though as the callbacks to various past covers are all really cool; anyone know what the one at the very back, in the “Spider-Man NO MORE” position is? [Source: Bleeding Cool]

** WEEKLY PROMETHEUS UPDATE** **WEEKLY PROMETHEUS UPDATE** **WEEKLY PROMETHEUS UPDATE** **WEEKLY PROMETHEUS UPDATE**

Prometheus, the most anticipated movie of the summer, will be rated ‘R’ so please, please watch the living hell out of it; I really think the success of Prometheus, the most antcipated film of the summer, is going to be a big deciding factor is whether or not larger budgeted films in the future, like say At the Mountains of Madness, get greenlit. Of course, that seems less likely now since Guillermo del Toro thinks ATMOM will actually lose traction because of Ridley Scott’s not-a-prequel; apparently some of the thematic elements are a little too similar for del Toro to believe the long in-development film will make it. While the success of Iron Man definitely did jump start a few projects, right up to the trailers for Green Lantern cribbing from the first trailer for Marvel’s franchise starter, a hard R-rated film in a similar vein to Scott’s upcoming feature is always a tough sell somehow. I suppose we’ll see after Pacific Rim is released but I hope this isn’t a signal that del Toro has personally lost interest.  [Source: Slash Film]

– GI Joe Con 2012 continues to frustrate me with how I’ll never have the Oktober Guard

I’ve been to Botcon a few times but have never managed to make it to GIJCC ever; normally I haven’t minded terribly since the Con exclusive sets are newly themed sets or tributes to things like Nightforce, but this year there’s going to be a 25AC/30th Anniversary styled Oktober Guard set. I’ll probably never end up having it unless I attend so, this is the 2nd major Joe release this year I’ve been priced out of after the Collector Club. Anyway, Stormavik’s just been revealed, joining Daina, Schrage and Colonel Brekhov with Horrorshow and Dragonsky taking up two remaining slots. There’s four unrevealed slots in the “Operation Bear Trap” set as well but no clue what they may be. Either way, the 2012 GI Joe Collector’s Convention is in New Orleans from June 28th to July 1st and will probably have a ton of awesome things going on including what I’m sure will be one enthralling screening of G.I. Joe: Retaliation. [Source: General’s Joes and GIJCC]

Well time to do something else because I’ve spent enough time trying to get a video to embed that refuses to because NBC insists we should only do that sort of thing on Facebook or something. Anyway, check out what we had on the site in the past week; because is why.
